Say No To Plastic Bags x Storm Swimwear

If you haven't heard of the monumental environmental damage that plastic is causing to our planet and the ocean then here are some facts. Its time for us all to clean up.

The ocean is drowning in plastic. We are now producing an estimated 1 trillion plastic bags every year, the majority of which is for single use. More than 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into our oceans every year. A single plastic bag is used on average for 15 minutes but has a life span of 1000 years.

In the ocean, plastic can be toxic breaking down into smaller pieces, making poisonous PCB and DDT levels go up. The marine wild life often mistake plastic for food and it has been found blocking breathing and passage ways of animals like turtles, dolphins, whales and seals. 85% of sea turtles will be damaged or die of injuries from plastics in their lifetime.

Still retail businesses spend more than $4 billion dollars per year to supply plastic bags to shoppers.

About a year ago in 2017 we watched a video of the CEO from Avani Eco Kevin Kumala dissolving what looked like a plastic bag in warm water and drinking it. We were keen to learn more and what we found was this.

An alternative to plastic bags, bags that look like plastic but are 100% biodegradable. Made from the starch of the cassava root it has passed oral toxicity tests and will completely dissolve in nature within 180 days.

We were so excited by what we found that we put an order in straight away. We are pleased that all Storm bikinis and swimsuits are now packaged in Avani Eco bags. If you have a business and use plastic, I would urge you to contact Avani and make a change.
